The Black-E

This is a photograph of the Black-E in 1982. The Black-E became the home and base of the UK's first community arts project in May 1968. The building itself is the former Great George Street Congregational Chapel. The name of the building came from the inner city smoke and grime that gave the building its colour (although this was stone cleaned in the 1980's). Do any of you have any fond memories or old photographs of The Black-E throughout the years? Perhaps you took place in activities there or remember how black the building itself was once (as in this picture).

Keep an eye on the website as there will be an interview with Bill Harpe (co-Founder and co-Director of The black-E) on its way soon.
