The Day The Tide Came In

My Story.... Pier Head Flood January 1st 1956
This is the old entrance to the ferry boats..all now have been demolished April 2nd 1973.and a brand new landing stage erected.
This is the day the River Mersey overflowed..I took this photogragh on January 1st 1956 standing on the platform of a tram. The Liverpool Daily Post published it on January 2nd together with details of the storm that was recored at 6am to 8.30am with gales of 71 mph across the North. The water reached over to the Royal Liver Buildings about 1 foot deep. I receved 12 shillings and six pence for my trouble from the Echo that is about 56pence in new money.
